Who gave this year, who gave last year, and who hasn't come back yet? It is December. You want to thank this year's donors and remind last year's donors who haven't given yet. Two lists, one question: who gave when?

The lesson

Four ready-made audiences answer it. Each one is built from one or two Behaviours.

  • Gave this year: one or more gifts since 1 January.
  • Gave last year: one or more gifts last year, from 1 January to 31 December.
  • LYBNT: gave last year, not yet this year. Your year-end recovery list.
  • SYBNT: gave in any year before this one, not yet this year. Your wider win-back list.

They use calendar years, not "the last 365 days". Last year means last January to December, for everyone.

LYBNT and the kept donors in the next stop add up to everyone who gave last year.

  1. In Orbit, open Audiences and search for Behaviour.
  2. Open Behaviour - LYBNT. Read its two rules: who it includes and who it leaves out.
  3. Open Behaviour - SYBNT and compare its rules with LYBNT's.
  4. In the Field Guide, open Insights, pick the Behaviours chip, and find Gave last year, not yet this year (LYBNT).

LYBNT needs a gift last year. SYBNT needs a gift in any year before this one. Neither has a gift this year.

Why it matters

The right reminder goes to the right people, and nobody who gave this year gets a "we miss you" letter.
