Close the loop

Stop 58 of 58 · about 12 minutes

What comes back onto the record, and can you answer your own question now? Questions like yours usually get sent to a committee and then to a future date. This stop is the future date.

The end of The First 90 Days: people who opened the second ask leave, the rest get a text on day 65, and the Triggered Event Second gift takes anyone who gives again out of the campaign. What comes back closes the loop.

Sample charity: the people and numbers in these screens are made up, so the picture shows the tool, not a result.

The lesson

The Learn step is what makes a pathway a loop. Depending on yours:

  • A second gift flips Second Donation Within 90 Days to 1, and Second Donation Speed Band records how fast.
  • A new gift resets Days Since Last Donation, so they leave the Cliff Edge band at the next refresh and their Rhythm Drift Score drops back below 1.
  • A volunteer's first gift moves Volunteer Donor Status from Volunteer Only to Both.
  • A guest's first gift shows up in First Event, First Gift and flips the Donor & Participant Flag.

Nothing to update by hand. Next Monday's list already knows what your team did.

Now your own question. Most are one of two kinds. Number questions ("How many…?", "Are we…?") start on a dashboard: find the closest tile, then filter. People questions ("Who…?", "Which supporters…?") start with an audience. The count is your answer. The list is your next step. If your data can't answer it yet, write down what is missing. That is useful too.

Your turn, in Orbit

  1. Decide: is yours a number question or a people question?
  2. Find or build the answer in Orbit. Ask Orin to summarise the dashboard, or to build the audience.
  3. Write down the answer and what you'll do about it.

Why it matters

The answer was always in your data. Now you are the one who can find it, and act on it.
