Apteco Learn Mission Schedule Time with an Apteco Architect Play with a Live System

The lesson

Orin's solution builder creates audiences from a prompt. It handles include and exclude rules, fixed dates, and moving date rules like "in the last year".

Apteco's own advice for a good prompt:

  • Name the table you are selecting on. "Create an audience of Supporters where…"
  • Use the exact variable names and categories, as they appear in your system. "Number Of Lifetime Donations is 1", not "new donors".
  • Be explicit about dates. "In the last year" is a moving rule. "Between 1 January and 31 December 2025" is fixed.
  • One request at a time. Split a complex ask into steps.
  • Check the count against what you expect before you use the audience.

Orin builds the audience in Orbit. You can open it, read its rules and change them, like any audience you built yourself.

Your turn, in Orbit

  1. Open Orin from the bottom-left icon.
  2. Type the prompt below, using your own system's variable names if they differ.
  3. Compare Orin's count with the audience you built by hand. If they differ, open both and read the rules.
  4. If Orin isn't switched on for you yet, read the prompt and answer the check from it.

Quick check

Which prompt will Orin build correctly?
  • "Find my newish donors"
  • "Create an audience of Supporters where Number Of Lifetime Donations is 1 and First Donation Date is in the last year"
  • "Who should I email?"

Answer: "Create an audience of Supporters where Number Of Lifetime Donations is 1 and First Donation Date is in the last year"

Orin's count is different from the audience you built by hand. What do you do?
  • Use Orin's, it's probably right
  • Open both audiences and compare their rules before using either
  • Delete both

Answer: Open both audiences and compare their rules before using either

Need a hint?

Name the table and the exact variables. Then check the count against your own build.
