Supporter motivations

Stop 50 of 58 · about 5 minutes

Why do they support you? Have you ever asked, and did anything happen when they answered? Supporter motivations is the simplest journey here: a story, a question, and a thank-you to whoever answers.

Supporter motivations: one email, a 5-day wait, an Engagement check split into What is your story? and Thank you for choosing us, a monthly hold, and the Story acknowledgement trigger.

Sample charity: the people and numbers in these screens are made up, so the picture shows the tool, not a result.

The lesson

Supporter motivations starts from the Supporter base:

  1. Stories behind the action email.
  2. 5 days, then an Interaction Split, Engagement check: Clicked on a Link gets What is your story?; Everyone Else gets Thank you for choosing us.
  3. Both go to the Diagram hold loop: a 1 month wait, then exit. Unsubscribed and Bounced exit.

The Story acknowledgement triggered event sends Story of a thousand memories to anyone who shares theirs.

How to use it. This is the journey to copy first when you are new to the builder: one email, one split, one trigger. Change the three templates to your own voice. The stories that come back are your next appeal's copy, and the people who answer are your warmest audience.

Your turn, in Orbit

  1. Open Supporter motivations.
  2. Follow the path: email, wait, split, two emails, hold.
  3. Find the triggered event. What does a supporter have to do to receive it?
  4. Compare this journey with Impact Awareness: what did that one add?

Quick check

Who gets the What is your story? email?
  • Everyone in the Supporter base
  • People who clicked a link in Stories behind the action
  • People who unsubscribed

Answer: People who clicked a link in Stories behind the action

Need a hint?

The Interaction Split reads the click.

Why it matters

Asking why people support you is the cheapest research there is, and the answers write your next appeal.
